Samantha Deal

Samantha Deal is originally from Western North Carolina, where she spent many a blissful day not wearing shoes. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Currently, she is working towards her doctorate at Western Michigan University, where she wears shoes pretty much all the time.

Samantha has been a finalist for The Hunger Mountain Ruth Stone Poetry Prize, the Mississippi Review Poetry Prize, the James Applewhite Poetry Prize, and the Dogwood Poetry Prize. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in several journals, including Cold Mountain Review, Ninth Letter, The Journal, The North Carolina Literary Review, ElsewhereThe Mississippi Review, and Rattle—where she was a finalist for the 2014 Rattle Poetry Prize.
