CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: INTERMEDIA

“Much of the best work being produced today seems to fall between media. This is no accident.” -Dick Higgins (1965)

A Bad Penny Review and Opo Books & Objects has a particular interest in what Fluxus artist and Something Else Press publisher Dick Higgins defines as Intermedia: “When two or more discrete media are conceptually fused, they become intermedia. They differ from mixed media in being inseparable in the essence of an artwork.”

A Bad Penny Review invites submissions of Prose, Poetry, and Intermedia broadly defined:

  • Works classified: poem, story, essay, etc.
  • Works unclassified: those that resist and challenge genre
  • Works long: books and/or objects
  • Works deviant: work that one wouldn’t/couldn’t/shouldn’t call “work”

ABPR accepts prose and poetry for the magazine during two reading periods:

  • March – April
  • September – October

Intermedia, visual, visual-verbal, new media, hybrid, or explicitly political work (see the Writing Resistance category) is accepted all year long.

Opo Books & Objects, our sister small press, also welcomes submissions all year long. Please see what Opo has published so far and consider the above call for submissions before submitting.

Online submissions only.
